At approximately 2:10 am (Sunday 02/18/2018) 911 callers began reporting an accident on east bound I-94, just east of M-59. Chesterfield Township Officers and Fire units located the victim (sole occupant) and his heavily damaged vehicle off the roadway, beyond the ditch, and at rest against a tree. Chesterfield Township Fire units extricated the unresponsive victim from the driver’s seat of his vehicle and he was conveyed to McLaren Macomb Hospital where he was pronounced deceased upon his arrival. East bound I-94 was shut down at M-59 (Hall Road/William P Rosso Hwy.) while accident investigators completed their reconstruction of the scene.
VICTIM: Mark Clegg, a 46 year old male from New Haven Michigan.
VEHICLE: 2005 Ford Expedition, black.
The investigation is ongoing, but at this time it appears that icy road conditions were a contributing factor. It is unknown at this point if drugs or alcohol played any role in the crash. At this time there are no actual eye witnesses to the crash and the Chesterfield Police Department urges anyone with information to contact the Police Department at (586) 949-2322.
