About the Dispatch Center
The Chesterfield Township Department of Public Safety Dispatch Center receives emergency 911 and non-emergency calls for service for the Chesterfield Township and New Baltimore police and fire departments 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The center operates under the direct supervision of the Administrative Sergeant.
In 2025 the Dispatch Center received a total of 71,629 calls, including 22,351 911 emergency calls and 49,278 non-emergency calls. Dispatchers created 35,202 police calls for service for Chesterfield Township alone, along with 1,417 fire runs, 10,276 New Baltimore police calls and 1,356 New Baltimore fire runs.
The center was renovated in 2024 with new technology, adding a fourth console and a video wall for continuous monitoring of the township's live camera feeds. Dispatch is equipped with New World Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), which tracks police and fire units with an automatic vehicle locator so the closest unit can be sent to an emergency.
All dispatchers are certified in Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) and fire dispatching through PowerPhone, Inc., and complete continuing training throughout the year. The center also uses the RapidSOS data platform, which delivers more accurate real-time caller location to first responders.

Technology in the Center
The 2024 renovation gave the center four consoles and a video wall that displays the township's live camera feeds. New World CAD records every call, tracks units by GPS and lets dispatchers see which police and fire units are closest to an incident. RapidSOS supplements caller information with device-based location data, which matters most when a caller cannot say where they are.
Communication Training Officer Program
New dispatchers learn the job through the Communication Training Officer (CTO) program, which includes 40 hours of Emergency Medical Dispatch training in addition to call taking, radio procedures and CAD. In 2025 the department sent two dispatchers through the CTO program, and dispatchers as a group completed 868.5 hours of training.
