About the Citizens' Public Safety Academy

The Chesterfield Township Citizens' Public Safety Academy was created in 2016 to offer participants a first-hand view into public safety. The 12-week program is open to adult residents and business owners within the township and is taught by the officers, dispatchers and firefighters who do the work every day.

Sessions cover detective bureau operations, dispatch operations, accident investigation, defensive tactics and handcuffing, traffic discussions and mock traffic stops, OWI detection, evidence technician work, the marine unit, S.W.A.T., Taser demonstrations, a K-9 demonstration, firearms simulation, and CPR and AED certification.

Graduates leave with a clear understanding of how the department operates and why officers make the decisions they do. Many stay involved afterward through the Friends of Chesterfield Police and other volunteer efforts.
