Statistics and Transparency
TransparencyAccreditation requires the department to analyze every use of force, pursuit and internal investigation each year. The results, along with activity across every division, are published here and in the Annual Report.
Force in Context
In 2025 officers had contact with 38,362 individuals and arrested 1,106. Some level of force was used with 75 people, a little less than two tenths of one percent of contacts. There were no incidents of deadly force in 2024 or 2025, and no discipline issues related to force. Physical controls and restraint devices were the most common force types. Domestic assault, health and safety petitions, felonious assault and OWI arrests accounted for most incidents.

Foot pursuit reporting became mandatory with a 2021 policy change, so figures before 2021 count vehicle pursuits only. Of the 20 pursuits in 2025, 19 were found in compliance with policy and one resulted in a policy change. No officers or suspects were injured.
