Sgt. Harry Otal

The Administrative Sergeant coordinates the day-to-day administrative functions of the police department under the direction of the Lieutenants and the Administrative Captain. Sergeant Otal provides direct supervision of the Dispatch Center, making sure communications run effectively and that dispatchers are trained and equipped to serve the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Sergeant Otal was honored as the 2025 Command Officer of the Year at the department's second annual Employee Appreciation Dinner on November 6, 2025, in recognition of outstanding leadership and dedication to the department and the community. The award is one of the department's highest honors, presented alongside Police Officer of the Year, Firefighter of the Year and the Director's Award of Excellence.

Sergeant Otal also works alongside the Records Department clerks and serves as a member of the Fatal Accident Investigation Team, responding to serious injury and fatal crashes in the township. The Records Department is staffed by records clerks and the Administrative Sergeant and handles reports, permits, registrations and FOIA requests at the lobby window.

Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of Dispatch Center operations
  • Oversees all dispatchers and communications personnel
  • Coordinates training and certification for dispatch staff, including the Communication Training Officer program
  • Reviews and processes administrative reports and documentation
  • Assists in policy development and procedure review
  • Manages scheduling and staffing for the communications division
  • Serves as liaison between administration and dispatch operations
  • Responds to escalated public inquiries and concerns
  • Responds as a member of the Fatal Accident Investigation Team
