On Tuesday (08/14/2018) afternoon, at approximately 4:15pm, Chesterfield Township Police and Fire Units responded to 21 Mile Road just west of I-94, where 911 callers were reporting a serious accident involving a motorcycle and a pick-up truck. Although the investigation is ongoing, it appears at this time that a 61 year old Chesterfield Township man was driving his 2001 Harley-Davidson motorcycle west bound on 21 Mile Road (just west of I-94), when a 58 year old man from Redford Mi., driving his 2015 GMC pick-up east bound on 21 Mile Road, made a left hand turn in front of the motorcycle, causing the collision. The Chesterfield man was thrown from his motorcycle and sustained life threatening injuries. He was conveyed by MedStar ambulance to McLaren Macomb Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.
The Redford man remained at the scene and told Officers that he simply did not see the motorcycle as he attempted to turn into the Speedway gas station from 21 Mile Road. There was a helmet located in the roadway after the accident, but it is unknown if it was being worn at the time of the crash. At this time it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the crash.
