On Tuesday (08/02/16) at approximately 8:30am, multiple Chesterfield Township Police and Fire units, assisted by MSP, MCSD, and Medstar units, responded to the scene of a rollover injury accident on west bound I-94, just east of the 21 Mile Road overpass. The ongoing investigation has led Officers to believe that a 57 year old Detroit man, driving a semi tractor-trailer, lost control and rolled onto his side as he entered west bound I-94 (from the west bound 21 Mile Road entrance ramp). The semi slid across all (3) west bound lanes of I-94 and struck a 46 year old man from Casco Mi. that was driving his 2014 Ford passenger van west bound in the “fast lane”. The colliding vehicles came to rest pinned in between the median guard rails (just east of the 21 Mile Road overpass). Both drivers were assisted from their vehicles and ultimately conveyed to McLaren Macomb Hospital. Remarkably, neither driver sustained life threatening injuries.
There exists the possibility that speed and/or alcohol were contributing factors in this crash. Results of a blood draw conducted at the hospital, and the conclusion of the accident investigators, will likely be presented to the Macomb County Prosecutor at a later date for review.
