Director Brian Bassett is responsible for overseeing all Public Safety Operations, which include both the Police and Fire Departments. Director Bassett has over 24 years of public safety experience, with 13 of those being at the executive level. Before accepting the position in Chesterfield Township, he served the City of Sylvan Lake as the Chief of Police. Prior to that, he served many years at the City of Southfield. During his tenure in Southfield, he served in various units and assignments, ultimately retiring as Deputy Chief.
Director Bassett brings a wealth of knowledge to our Department, having earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration from Wayne State University, graduated from the FBI National Academy and Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command, and most recently received his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University.
