Coyotes likely responsible for killing a deer..

LOCATION: 50700 block of Kiely Dr. “Village of East Harbor”

At approximately 11:30pm on Wednesday night (3-9-16), an 80 year old female resident of the “Village of East Harbor” woke to a disturbing loud commotion right outside her back window. She described it as “growling, yelping, and howling”. She looked outside but was unable to see what was taking place due to the darkness. At daybreak she inspected her rear yard and observed what appeared to be a small fox feeding on a young deer carcass. Visible in the yard was blood and hair from the young deer that was strewn over a ten yard path from her grass yard to the wooded area behind her home.

The complex maintenance crew and Chesterfield Township Officers responded to the scene and the deer was disposed of properly by the maintenance crew. At this time we have no other recent documentation of any similar coyote contacts in our community, but do know that coyotes exist in Chesterfield.

As a precautionary measure the Chesterfield Township Police Department recommends that you keep watch over your smaller pets while they are outside.
