On Thursday (6-1-17), at approximately 11:40pm, Chesterfield Township Police, Fire, and Medstar units responded to the scene of a pedestrian accident on 23 Mile Road, just east of Sass Road. Information and eye witness accounts gathered from the scene indicate that the 44 year old victim was pushing a shopping cart in the right lane of travel on west bound 23 Mile Road when she was struck by a 44 year old St. Clair Shores woman driving a 2003 Chevy SUV, west bound on 23 Mile Road (in the far right lane). The victim was conveyed to McLaren Macomb Hospital where she was pronounced deceased a short time later. The 44 year old St. Clair Shores woman remained at the scene, was cooperative, and stated she did not see the victim in the roadway, in the darkness, until it was too late to avoid hitting her.
Alcohol, drugs, and/or speed do not appear to be factors at this point in the ongoing investigation.
