Late Night Thief Arrested

Late Night Thief Arrested

ARRESTED: Malik William Lowe, 19 years old, from Clinton Township MI.

Early Saturday morning (3-26-16), at approximately 2:55am, Chesterfield Officers were dispatched to Hale Lane where neighbors were reporting a suspicious subject walking around the homes under the cover of darkness. As Officers began to saturate the area, a Chesterfield Township Officer observed a subject (later identified as Malik Lowe) laying on the ground, next to a parked car, obviously attempting to hide from the passing patrol vehicle. The Officer exited his patrol vehicle and began to approach the subject and the subject jumped to his feet and began fleeing. The Officer gave chase, shouting commands for Mr. Lowe to stop. After a brief attempt to escape, Mr. Lowe stopped and surrendered in the street. Assisting Officers in the area at the same time determined that a neighbor on E. Adler Park had left their attached garage door open, and was reporting that (2) bicycles had just been stolen from inside. A short distance away Officers located a black Ford Explorer parked on E. Adler Park and determined it belonged to Malik Lowe. Parked outside of Mr. Lowe’s Explorer was one of the bicycles stolen from the nearby neighbors garage. Officers observed the other stolen bicycle inside the Explorer on the rear seat. Mr. Lowe was placed under arrest and his vehicle was impounded.

During an inventory search of Mr. Lowe’s vehicle, Officers located a .22 caliber handgun wrapped in a bandana in the back of the truck, and a cell phone that did not belong to Mr. Lowe, in the front seat. Officers later determined the cell phone had been stolen on this same night from a parked vehicle in Macomb Township. During a subsequent interview with a Chesterfield Detective, Mr. Lowe admitted to entering the Adler Park garage and stealing the bicycles. He stated the .22 caliber handgun was given to him by a “friend” a while ago, and that he carried it for protection.

On Monday (3-28-16), after review by the Macomb County Prosecutors Office, Mr. Malik was charged with:

  • Breaking and Entering (5 year felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon (5 year felony)
  • Resist and Obstruct an Officer (2 year felony)
  • Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property $200 to $1,000.00 (1 year misdemeanor)

Mr. Lowe was arraigned via video at the 42-2 District Court in New Baltimore and is currently being held in the Macomb County Jail on a $10,000.00 cash bond.
