Chesterfield Twp. Police Officers were requested to assist St Clair County Sherriff Deputies on Mar 25, 2021 at 11:18 PM. The Sherriff Deputies were attempting to apprehend a suspect who was fleeing from them at high speeds westbound on I-94 approaching Chesterfield Twp. The suspect, who was later identified as a 19- year- old Warren MI man, was fleeing from law enforcement after stealing a 1999 GMC Jimmy in Port Huron MI. The Chesterfield Twp. K-9 Officer took up a safe position on westbound I-94 near New Haven Rd. waiting for the GMC to enter Chesterfield Twp. The suspect passed the officer at high speed and lost control of the GMC as he drove around an innocent westbound I-94 motorist. The GMC veered into the I-94 median and struck the median barrier cable causing the SUV to spin and roll many times. The Chesterfield Officer ran to the heavily crash damaged GMC and discovered the male had climbed out of the window and was now fleeing on foot east across I-94. The Chesterfield Officer ordered the male to stop but he ignored the orders and climbed over the cable barrier into eastbound I-94 traffic lanes. The Chesterfield K-9 Officer was able to remotely release his police dog from his patrol car. The dog was directed towards the fleeing suspect and was able to engage him in the eastbound I-94 lanes. The K-9 Officer was able to quickly take the suspect into custody. He was turned over to St Clair County Deputies on their charges.
