VICTIM (Pedestrian): Ricky Jay Baker, a 60 year old male with a last known address in Roseville, MI.
On Sunday November 27th, at approximately 6:05 p.m., Chesterfield Township Police and Fire units responded to north bound Gratiot, south of 21 Mile Road, where 911 callers were reporting that a pedestrian had just been struck by a vehicle. At the scene Officers located Mr. Baker lying in the roadway critically injured and the driver that struck him (a 28 year old man from Columbiaville Mi., driving a 2003 Buick) pulled off to the side of the roadway. Mr. Baker was conveyed from the scene by Medstar where he was pronounced deceased a short time later at McLaren Macomb Hospital. The driver that struck him told Officers that he was simply traveling home from work, north bound on Gratiot, when Mr. Baker attempted to run across Gratiot (from east side to west side) and ran directly in front of his vehicle. He stated he was unable to stop or avoid him at that time. Witnesses at the scene gave similar accounts of the accident.
At this stage in the investigation alcohol, drugs, and speed do not appear to be factors in the accident. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has additional information is urged to call Chesterfield Township Detective James Gates at 586-949-3304.
