Serious Injury Accident

Serious Injury Accident

On Thursday (7/27/17) at 6:40 pm, a husband (59 years old) and wife (56 years old) from Clinton Township were critically injured when the motorcycle (2008 Honda) they were riding together was struck broadside at Gratiot and Telstar by a 58 year old Chesterfield man driving a 1999 Toyota sedan. During the preliminary stages of the accident investigation it was determined that the couple was riding their motorcycle northbound on Gratiot when the 58 year Chesterfield man pulled out on to Gratiot from Telstar (westbound) and struck the couple broadside. The Chesterfield man stopped immediately (uninjured) at the scene of the crash, along with several other citizens that witnessed the accident, and began rendering aide to the injured couple.

The husband and wife were conveyed to McLaren Macomb where they were listed in critical, but stable condition overnight. They were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash. The Chesterfield man that struck them was uninjured and later released from the scene. He told Officers that he simply did not see the motorcycle as he pulled out onto Gratiot (with the intensions of continuing on, south bound on Gratiot).

The investigation is ongoing, but at this stage alcohol, drugs, and speed do not appear to be contributing factors.
