Fatal Pedestrian / Train Accident

Fatal Pedestrian / Train Accident

Victim: At this time we believe the victim is a 25 year old male from Macomb Township. The investigation is ongoing at this point and we anticipate taking additional steps to confirm his identity.

On Sunday evening (7/24/16), at approximately 10:45pm, Chesterfield Township Officers responded to the railroad tracks south of 24 Mile Road and east of Chesterfield Road, where it was reported that a pedestrian had been struck by a train. Officers made contact with the engineer (CN Railroad) who had stopped the northbound train near 24 Mile Road. The engineer told Officers that he was northbound, and past 23 Mile Road, when he observed a white male laying across the tracks on his back. The engineer stated he was unable to stop the train and struck the male where he laid. Officers searched the railroad tracks on foot and discovered the deceased male on the tracks between 23 Mile Rd. and 24 Mile Rd. (behind the Home Depot). The man’s vehicle was later located parked in the Meijer parking lot at 23 Mile Road and Gratiot.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with additional information is urged to call Detective Chris Delor at 586-949-3375.
