The Chesterfield Township Police Department is pleased to announce that it will be conducting a Citizen’s Police Academy this March 15 thru May 24, 2017, 6:30pm-9:30pm (excluding April 12th). The Citizen’s Academy is designed to provide the community of Chesterfield Township with a hands on learning environment in the law enforcement profession. It is the goal of the Citizen’s Academy to familiarize each participant with the knowledge, skills, and tactics needed to be a successful Law Enforcement Officer.
Who can Attend?
The Citizen’s Academy is free of charge and open to all Chesterfield Township residents and business owners, over the age of 18. Participants can not have any felony convictions or have any misdemeanor convictions within the last four (4) years. All applicants will be subject to a background investigation and will need to sign a liability waiver. Applications can be picked up at the station or downloaded by clicking here.
What to Expect?
The Academy will cover the topics listed below but not limited to:
- Laws of arrest
- Use of force
- Accident investigation
- OWI detection
- Crime Scene Preservation and Processing
- Mock Traffic Stops
- Participants will be hands on with the everyday equipment used in the field
- Ride along (4 hours voluntary)
- Graduation ceremony
How long is the Academy?
The Academy class will meet once a week for 3 hours and run for 8 weeks total. Classes will take place at the station, except for occasional off site classes. Those will take place at the Macomb Police Academy. The 8th week of training will consist of a graduation ceremony, which is open for family members to attend.
