The Chesterfield Township Police Department is pleased to announce that it will be conducting a Citizens’ Police Academy this September 6 thru November 15, 2017, 6:30pm-9:30pm. The Citizens’ Academy is designed to provide the community of Chesterfield Township with a hands on learning environment in the law enforcement profession. It is the goal of the Citizens’ Academy to familiarize each participant with the knowledge, skills, and tactics needed to be a successful Law Enforcement Officer.
Who can Attend?
The Citizens’ Academy is free of charge and open to all Chesterfield Township residents and business owners, over the age of 18. Participants can not have any felony convictions or have any misdemeanor convictions within the last four (4) years. All applicants will be subject to a background investigation and will need to sign a liability waiver. Application packets can be picked up at the station or downloaded by clicking here.
What to Expect?
The Academy will cover the topics listed below but not limited to:
- Laws of arrest
- Use of force
- Accident investigation
- OWI detection
- Crime Scene Preservation and Processing
- Mock Traffic Stops
- Mock Crime Scene
- Handcuffing/ Defensive Tactics
- Participants will be hands on with the everyday equipment used in the field
- CPR/ AED Certifications
- Ride along (4 hours voluntary)
- Graduation ceremony
How long is the Academy?
The Academy class will meet once a week (Wednesday) for 3 hours and run for 11 weeks total. Classes will take place at the station, except for occasional off site classes. The 11th week of training will consist of a graduation ceremony, which is open for family members to attend.
